The purpose of this 8-hour live fire class is to teach people the capabilities and limitations of the 2.5-gallon water can. We emphasize water cans are not a replacement for an attack line, but a supplement for crews to effect search and rescue operations either before the arrival of an apparatus with hose and water, or after to provide some protection without the cumbersomeness of dragging a hose line on a primary search. Students will be taught proper care and maintenance, ways to make their can more functional, how to move effectively with it and how to use it for fire attack.

Using data from the firefighter rescue survey we take a look at the next steps for effective search  and expansion of the VEIS. Through a combination of classroom instruction and scenario-based  discussions, participants will explore advanced VEIS applications, including multi-room and  multi-floor search operations, coordination with ventilation and suppression crews, and tactical  decision-making in both residential structures. Emphasis will be placed on risk assessment, victim  profiling, communication, and the role of VEIS in survivability-driven operations.
